What Does Job 13:21 Mean?
These are the two things Job asked for in the previous verse. First, that God would withdraw His afflicting hand, easing the suffering that crushes him; second, that the dread of God's overwhelming majesty would not paralyze him with fear so he can speak.
Job is not demanding escape but asking for room to stand and speak honestly before God. He longs to approach without being undone by terror. This is the tender boundary of faith: the soul wants nearness to God but trembles before His holiness. The gospel answers this very need, for through Christ the believer may draw near to the throne of grace with confidence, the crushing hand stayed and the paralyzing dread transformed into reverent trust.
