What Does Job 15:13 Mean?
Completing the question begun in the previous verse, Eliphaz names what he believes Job's passion has produced, that Job has turned his very spirit against God and loosed reckless words from his mouth. To Eliphaz, Job's laments are not faith in pain but the breath of revolt.
Yet turning the spirit toward God in honest struggle is not the same as turning against him. Job directs his hard questions to God precisely because he still believes God is there to hear. The verse warns us not to confuse lament with rebellion. The Psalms are full of raw cries flung heavenward, and God receives them. A spirit that keeps speaking to God, even in protest, has not yet let go of him.
