Job 15:17 Meaning and Explanation

Having indicted Job, Eliphaz now shifts into the role of teacher. He calls Job to listen as he declares what he himself has seen. The long description of the wicked man's fate that follows is presented as hard-won observation, the fruit of a lifetime's watching how the world works.

To say I will show you what I have seen sounds humble, an appeal to experience rather than mere theory. Yet experience can be partial, and the pattern Eliphaz thinks he has observed does not fit the man before him. The verse reminds us that what we have personally seen, however real, is never the whole of God's dealings. Wisdom holds its observations open before the larger purposes of God, which often run deeper than any one lifetime can perceive.
