What Does Job 15:22 Mean?
Eliphaz continues painting the wicked man's doom. He does not believe he will ever return out of the darkness that surrounds him, and he is, as it were, marked out and awaited by the sword. Hopelessness within and violence without close in upon him together.
The image of one who has lost all hope of seeing light again is a portrait of despair, the bitter fruit Eliphaz assigns to guilt. Yet Job too feels surrounded by darkness, though he is innocent, which shows how this scheme fails as a test of a person's heart.
