What Does Job 18:11 Mean?
From traps Bildad moves to terror. 'Terrors' surround the wicked 'on every side,' so that there is no direction of safety, and they 'drive him to his feet' pursuing him, scattering him, harrying his every step. The hunted animal of the previous verses is now a man fleeing in dread.
Bildad describes the inward torment of a life without God: a restless fear that something is always closing in. It is a real description of conscience under judgment, with nowhere to hide. Yet Scripture holds out the opposite gift. Perfect love casts out fear, and Christ says to His own, 'Let not your heart be troubled.' The peace He gives is not the absence of trouble but His presence within it, surrounding the trembling soul with Himself.
