What Does Job 21:26 Mean?
Job draws the two contrasting lives to their common end. The one who died at ease and the one who died in bitterness both lie down in the same dust, and the worms cover them alike. Death makes no distinction between their fortunes.
This is the great leveler that exposes the poverty of his friends' theology, which read earthly outcomes as God's verdict. In the grave, the prosperous and the wretched are equal. Yet for the believer, the dust is not the final word. The same Scripture that says we return to dust also promises that the Redeemer lives and that those who sleep in the dust shall awake.
