What Does Job 22:29 Mean?
Eliphaz states a principle dear to the whole of Scripture: when others are brought low, the godly can speak of lifting up, for God saves the humble. He affirms that the Lord raises those who are cast down and rescues the lowly in heart.
This is one of the truest things Eliphaz says. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble, lifting up those who bow before Him. In a world that exalts the self-assured, the kingdom of God belongs to the lowly. The Savior Himself, who humbled Himself even to death, was exalted to the highest place, and He lifts up all who come to Him in humility. The way down, into humble dependence on God, is the way up into His saving grace.
