What Does Job 29:6 Mean?
Job paints his past prosperity in extravagant pictures: so much cream that he could wash his feet in it, and oil flowing as if pressed from solid rock. These are images of a wealth so great it seems to pour out of the very ground.
The hyperbole is the language of gratitude remembering plenty. Job is not boasting in his own getting; he describes gifts that came as from the rock itself, beyond his making. Such abundance is meant to lift the eyes to the Giver, who opens his hand and satisfies the desire of every living thing.
