What Does Job 34:11 Mean?
Elihu now grounds God's justice in His dealings with people: He renders to each 'the work of a man' and brings every person to find 'according to his ways.' God is not indifferent to human conduct; He governs a moral order in which deeds carry consequences. Elihu offers this as proof that God's rule is fair, not arbitrary.
This principle runs through all of Scripture. God 'will render to every man according to his deeds,' and 'whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.' Yet the believer also knows that this very justice drove the gospel: the One who knew no sin took upon Himself what our ways deserved, that mercy and justice might meet. God's recompense is real, and so is the grace that answers it.
