What Does Job 37:14 Mean?
Elihu turns and addresses Job by name, pressing his appeal home. He calls Job to hearken, to stand still, and to consider the wondrous works of God. After the long sweep of storm and snow and cloud, the summons is simple: stop striving and contemplate what God has done.
To stand still and consider is the heart of worship. So often the troubled soul is restless, demanding answers and rehearsing its case. Elihu prescribes a different medicine: be still, and behold the wonders of the Maker. There is healing in turning from our own arguments to gaze on the greatness of God. The believer who learns to pause and 'consider' finds that wonder quiets the heart where explanation never could. Stillness before God is itself a form of trust.
