What Does Job 37:3 Mean?
Elihu continues his description of the storm, now marveling at its reach. God directs the sound under the whole heaven and flings His lightning to the very ends of the earth. Nothing in the vast sky escapes His governance; the flash that splits the clouds is aimed by His hand.
The picture is of a sovereignty that is total and unbounded. No corner of creation lies outside the Maker's control, and no display of raw power is beyond His ordering. For a sufferer like Job, this is meant to comfort as much as to humble: the same God who guides the lightning also holds his life. The believer rests in knowing that nothing, however wild it appears, is loose from the hand of the One who reigns over all.
