What Does Job 37:4 Mean?
Elihu describes the sequence every watcher of a storm knows: the lightning flashes, and after it the thunder roars. He names this roar the voice of God's excellency, His majestic and glorious voice. When that voice sounds, God does not restrain the lightnings; they go forth at His word.
There is grandeur here that words can only gesture toward. The thunder becomes a parable of a God whose majesty cannot be muted or managed by human hands.
