What Does Job 37:7 Mean?
Elihu observes what the storm does to human activity. When God sends snow and heavy rain, He seals up the hand of every man, halting the labor of the field. The work of human hands is stilled so that all people might recognize and acknowledge His work above their own.
There is a gracious design in this enforced rest. When our busy hands are stopped, our eyes are freed to look up and see the Maker at work. God sometimes interrupts the labors we trust in, not to harm but to teach, that we might know His hand is greater than ours. The believer learns to receive even the imposed stillness as an invitation, a summons to leave off self-reliance and consider the God who works in every season.
