What Does Job 9:19 Mean?
Job considers his options and finds every door shut. If the matter is settled by strength, God is overwhelmingly strong. If by a fair trial, who could even summon God to appear and set a time to hear the case? There is no neutral ground, no level field on which to meet Him.
This is the dilemma of the creature before the Creator, and Job feels it keenly. Left here, it would be despair. But the longing for an appointed hearing, for someone who could set the time and arrange the meeting, is itself a cry the gospel answers. The Judge whom none can summon has appointed a day, and provided a Mediator to stand in it.
