John 14:19 Meaning and Explanation

Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more. Jesus is hours away from his arrest. Within days, his body will be taken down from the cross and buried. The world will declare victory. The kingdom he proclaimed will seem defeated. But ye see me. The disciples, the disciples of the disciples, all believers throughout history, will see him. Not with eyes of flesh but with eyes of faith. The crucified Jesus will rise. The risen Jesus will be known. And more, he will be present to them through the Spirit. The sight given to believers is more profound than the sight granted to the crowds who beheld his physical form. We see him spiritually, which is to see him as he truly is.

Because I live, ye shall live also. Here is the heart of the promise: my resurrection is yours. My defeat of death is your defeat of death. I am alive, and you are alive in me. This is not merely metaphorical. It is the basis of all Christian hope. We do not face death as orphans or as those who have no future. We face it knowing that the one who loves us has already gone through it and opened a path for us. We are hidden in Christ's life, connected to his resurrection power through the Spirit. To live in Christ is to live in the only life that is eternal.
