What Does John 8:10 Mean?
For the first time in the scene someone speaks to the woman rather than about her. Jesus stands and addresses her as Woman — the same respectful word he used for his own mother (John 2:4; 19:26) — and his questions invite her to lift her eyes and see for herself that the circle of accusers has melted away.
He lets her say aloud what grace has done: no one is left to condemn. Christ does not merely dismiss our accusers behind our backs; he teaches us to recognize their absence and to stand upright where we once stood condemned. Paul will later fling the same question over every believer — who is he that condemneth? (Romans 8:34). Her little courtroom has become the whole world's.
