What Does Joshua 1:2 Mean?
God names the loss plainly: "Moses my servant is dead." Then he turns grief toward action with a threefold call -- arise, go over, lead. The Jordan that bars the way is named directly, "this Jordan," and beyond it lies the land promised long before to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Mourning has its place, yet there comes a moment to rise and move at God's word. Notice that the land is something God gives even as the people must go in to receive it. Grace and obedience walk together here: the gift is sure, but it is entered by faith that takes the next step. God still calls his people to cross the hard waters in front of them, trusting the inheritance on the far side.
