What Does Joshua 1:3 Mean?
God renews to Joshua the very promise spoken to Moses, echoing words given at Sinai and on the journey. The image is vivid: wherever the sole of their foot presses the ground, that ground is already granted. The gift is settled in heaven before it is walked out on earth.
The promise is given, yet it is possessed step by step. Israel must actually walk the land to receive what God has pledged. So it is with the life of faith: God's promises are certain, but they become ours as we move forward into them, planting our feet where his word has gone before.
