What Does Joshua 13:2 Mean?
God now itemizes the land that remains. The catalog begins along the southwestern coast, the country of the Philistines, and the region of the Geshurites. These were strongholds Israel had not yet entered, named so the inheritance could be claimed with clear eyes.
Scripture does not hide the gap between promise and present possession. By naming each unconquered place, God treats the future as already deeded to His people while being honest about the labor ahead. The life of faith is lived in that space: certain of what God has pledged, sober about what is not yet ours.
