What Does Joshua 15:63 Mean?
The chapter ends on an honest note of incompleteness. Judah could not, or did not, drive out the Jebusites from Jerusalem, and the two peoples dwelt side by side in the city even as the account was written. The city would remain in Jebusite hands until David captured it long after.
The inheritance was granted in full, yet not everything was possessed; a foothold of the old order remained. So the people of God live with the tension of a promise sure but not yet wholly realized. What was left undone here awaited a king to come, and points us to the greater King who will at last make all things His own.
