The Gibeonites continue their account by naming specific victories: the defeat of Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan, the two Amorite kings beyond the Jordan. These were recent and well-known events, lending their story the ring of careful knowledge.
Tellingly, they speak of the older conquests east of the Jordan but say nothing of Jericho and Ai, the very victories that prompted their journey.
