Joshua 9:7 Meaning and Explanation

The men of Israel do not accept the story at once. They raise exactly the right question: Peradventure ye dwell among us. If these strangers are in fact neighbors, no covenant of peace can lawfully be made with them. For a moment, sound instinct presses against the deception.
