Judges 3:14 Meaning and Explanation

The verse marks the length of the bondage: eighteen years under Moab, more than twice the eight years of the first oppression. The plain statement lets the weight of those years rest on the reader.

Long seasons of hardship can make rescue feel impossible, and eighteen years is long enough for a child to grow to adulthood under a foreign yoke. Yet the very mention of the years assures us they are numbered and seen. God is never indifferent to how long His people suffer. In His time, not a moment too late, He moves to set the captive free.
