What Does Judges 3:20 Mean?
Now alone with Eglon in his cool upper room, Ehud declares, I have a message from God unto thee. At these words the king rises from his seat, an act of respect that brings him within reach.
There is solemn irony here. The message from God is real, though not the kind Eglon expects. The oppressor who has fattened himself on God's people rises to hear a word he cannot escape. Scripture warns that there is a reckoning before God that no power or comfort can avoid. Even as judgment falls on Moab, the LORD is keeping faith with His covenant people and answering their cry.
