What Does Judges 8:33 Mean?
No sooner is Gideon dead than Israel turns away again. They go after the Baalim in spiritual unfaithfulness and make Baalberith, the Baal of the covenant at Shechem, their god, abandoning the LORD who had delivered them.
The speed of the fall is sobering. While Gideon lived, his presence restrained the people; once he is gone, the old idolatry rushes back.
