What Does Judges 9:13 Mean?
The vine answers like the rest. Its wine cheers both God and people -- poured out in worship and gladdening the heart -- and it will not forsake that gift to be promoted over the trees.
All three of the good trees decline, each prizing its fruitful purpose above power. The vine's wine, like the olive's oil, had a place in honoring God; to leave it for an empty crown would betray its true calling.
