What Does Judges 9:50 Mean?
Flush with the destruction of Shechem, Abimelech moves on to another city, Thebez, lays siege to it, and takes it. His campaign of violence rolls forward.
Success in cruelty only feeds his appetite for more. Having devoured the city that crowned him, he hunts down further conquest, seemingly unstoppable. Yet the prophecy is not yet complete. The fire that came from Abimelech upon Shechem must still return from Shechem upon Abimelech. At Thebez, the man who has dealt out so much death is about to meet his own, in a way no one would expect.
