What Does Judges 9:52 Mean?
Abimelech advances on the tower, attacks it, and pushes right up to its door, intending to burn it down with fire just as he had burned the stronghold at Shechem.
He reaches for the same weapon of fire that served him before, drawing close to the door in his confidence. But this time his nearness to the tower will be his undoing rather than his triumph. The man who has used fire to consume others comes within arm's reach of the place where God will end him. Pride presses forward, blind to how close it stands to its own fall.
