This chapter remembers some of David's biggest battles — even battles against giants. It shows us that God's people don't have to be afraid of things that look big and scary.
Today's Story
David's army had grown strong, and God kept giving them victory. This chapter remembers a few of those battles — including some against giants.
You probably remember the most famous giant of all: Goliath, the huge soldier that young David knocked down with one stone and a slingshot, trusting God. Well, Goliath had relatives — other giant warriors who were just as tall and just as scary.
One giant came out to fight. He was so big that even his spear was enormous! But one of David's brave soldiers stood up to him. Another giant had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot — twenty-four in all! He thought he was unbeatable.
But here is the thing about giants in the Bible: no giant is bigger than God. One by one, with God's help, David's soldiers won. The tall, scary warriors did not win the day.
The giants looked huge. But God was bigger — and the people who trusted Him did not have to be afraid.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- A “giant” can be anything that feels too big — a hard test, a scary night, a big worry. What feels like a giant to you right now?
- David's soldiers were brave because they remembered God was with them. How does it help to remember God is bigger than your giant?
- Young David once faced Goliath trusting God. Who is someone you can ask to stand with you when something feels too big?
