1 Corinthians is a letter Paul wrote to help God's family love God and each other. In this part, Paul shows that loving people matters more than being right.
Today's Story
The people in Corinth were arguing again. This time it was about food. Some of them said, “We know the truth, so we can eat anything we want!” And they were right. But they were saying it in a proud way that made their friends feel small.
Paul gently stopped them. “Knowing a lot can puff you up,” he said. “But love builds people up. It is not enough to be right. You have to be kind too.”
Then Paul taught them something they had not thought about. “Some of your friends are still learning,” he said. “If you do something that makes them stumble and feel sad, that is not loving, even if you are allowed to do it.”
“So look around,” Paul said. “Think about the people next to you. Would this hurt them? Then do not do it. A true friend gives things up to take care of others.”
Paul wanted them to remember the most important thing. Being right is good. But loving people is even better.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Have you ever known you were right but said it in a way that hurt someone? What could you do differently next time?
- Paul said love is more important than being right. What is one kind thing you could give up to make a friend happy?
- How can you tell if something you do might make a friend feel sad or left out?
