1 John is a letter John wrote to help God's family love God and love each other.
John knew Jesus. He walked with Him and listened to Him. Now he wants to tell us all about it.
Today's Story
John was an old man now. But he still remembered the best days of his whole life — the days he spent with Jesus.
So he picked up his pen and wrote a letter to the people he loved. He wanted them to feel like family. He wanted them to feel the way he felt when he was near Jesus.
“We saw Him with our own eyes,” John wrote. “We heard Him with our own ears. We even touched Him with our own hands! And we want to tell you, so you can be part of this big, happy family too.”
Then John shared one of the very first things Jesus taught him. “God is light,” he wrote. “There is no dark in Him at all.”
Light is warm. Light helps us see. When we walk close to God, it is like walking in the warm, bright sunshine with people we love.
And here is the best part. When we do something wrong, we do not have to hide. We can just tell God, “I am sorry.” He always forgives us. He cleans our hearts and makes them new, like fresh white snow.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When was a time today that you felt cozy and safe, like sitting in a warm, sunny spot?
- Have you ever wanted to hide after you did something wrong? What feels better — hiding it, or telling the truth?
- How do you think God feels when we come and tell Him we are sorry?
