This is the last part of John's letter to help God's family love God and each other.
John finishes by telling us we can know — really know — that we belong to God.
Today's Story
John was almost done with his letter. He wanted to leave his friends feeling sure and safe, like a child tucked snugly into bed.
“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God,” he wrote. When we trust Jesus, we belong to the family for keeps.
And John said something happy about belonging to God. When we love Him, doing what He asks is not heavy or hard. It feels light, the way it is easy to help someone you love.
Then John told them why he wrote the whole letter. “I write this so you will know that you have life that lasts forever.”
Not wonder. Not hope so. Know. We can be as sure of God's love as we are sure the sun will come up.
And one more gift: we can talk to God anytime, about anything. John called it being brave to come close to Him. When we ask for the good things He wants for us, He hears every single word.
So John ended his letter the way he began — wrapping his friends up in the love of God.

Talk About It
- What is something you know for sure — so sure you never even worry about it?
- John says we can know God loves us and we belong to Him. How does it feel to be that sure?
- God hears us every time we talk to Him. What is something you would like to tell Him right now?
