One brave man is willing to tell the truth when everybody else is just saying what the king wants to hear. Meet the prophet Micaiah.
Today's Story
King Ahab wanted to go to battle, and he gathered a big crowd of prophets to ask if he should. “Yes! Go! You'll win!” they all cheered. But they were just telling Ahab what he wanted to hear, not the truth.
There was one more prophet, named Micaiah, who always told the truth. A messenger pulled him aside and whispered, “Listen, everyone else is saying yes. You should just agree and make the king happy.”
But Micaiah shook his head. “I can only say what the LORD tells me to say,” he answered. “Nothing more, nothing less.”
So Micaiah stood before the king and told him the honest truth, even though he knew it would make Ahab angry - and it did. The king didn't like the true answer one bit.
But Micaiah had done the right thing. It can be really hard to tell the truth when everyone around you is going along with something else. Micaiah shows us how to be brave and honest anyway.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Everyone told the king what he wanted to hear, but Micaiah told the truth. Why is it sometimes hard to be the only one telling the truth?
- Micaiah knew the truth might make the king mad, but he said it anyway. When is it hard for you to be honest?
- How can you be kind and honest at the same time?
