1 Peter 1 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

1 Peter is a letter. A man named Peter wrote it to help God's family love God and stay brave when things are hard.

Today's Story

Peter was one of Jesus' closest friends. He had walked with Jesus, eaten with Jesus, and watched Jesus do amazing things.

Now Peter is far away, writing a letter. He is writing to people who love God but are having a hard time. Some folks were being unkind to them just because they loved Jesus. Peter wanted to cheer them up.

So he starts with the best news of all. He says God has given us a brand-new life and a living hope. Because Jesus came back to life after He died, we get to look forward to good things that will never, ever run out. Peter says it like a treasure that “can never die, spoil or fade away.”

Peter knew the hard time would not last forever. He said it was a little like gold being made shiny in a fire. The hard parts can make our trust in God stronger and more beautiful.

And here is the wonderful part: even though they had never seen Jesus with their own eyes, they loved Him. Peter said they were “filled with a glorious joy.” A joy you can feel even on a hard day, because God is holding you tight.
