1 Peter 2 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Peter keeps writing his letter to God's family. In this part, he reminds them how special they are to God.

Today's Story

Peter wants God's family to grow up strong and good. So he gives them a picture they could understand.

He says, think about a tiny baby. What does a baby want more than anything? Milk! A baby cries for it because it helps the baby grow. Peter says we should want God's words just like that. He wrote, “Long for the pure milk that is in God's word. It will help you grow up.”

Then Peter gives another picture. He says God is building something wonderful, like a beautiful house. And we are the stones! Every single one of us is a special stone that God picked on purpose to be part of His building. Jesus is the most important stone of all, the one that holds it all together.

Then come some of the warmest words in the whole letter. Peter tells them what God thinks of them: “You are a chosen people. You are God's special treasure.” God brought them out of the dark and into His wonderful light.

Because they are so loved, Peter says they can live good and kind lives, even when others are not kind back. They can follow Jesus, who was always gentle and good.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever been picked for something special, like a game or a job? How did it feel to be chosen?
  2. Peter says God calls you His treasure. If God keeps you like a treasure, how does that change how you feel today?
  3. A baby drinks milk to grow big. What is one way you could “drink in” God's words this week so your love for Him grows?
