1 Samuel 30 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

David comes home to his worst day ever - and shows us exactly what to do when everything feels lost.

Today's Story

David and his men came home to their town of Ziklag - and stopped in their tracks. While they were away, raiders had swept through and carried off everyone's families. The houses were empty. The town was a mess.

David's strong soldiers sat down and cried until they had no tears left. It was the saddest, hardest day they could remember. Even David's own family was gone.

So what did David do? He did the bravest thing of all. The Bible says David found strength in the LORD his God. When everything felt lost, he turned to God instead of giving up.

David asked God, “Should I chase them? Will I catch them?” God said, “Go after them. You will rescue everyone.”

So David and his tired men chased the raiders across the desert. And God kept His word - David got everyone back. Every wife, every child, every last person. Nobody was missing!

And when it was time to share the reward, David made a fair rule: even the men who had been too tired to fight got an equal share. Everybody won together.
