Solomon is the new king. One night God tells him, “Ask for whatever you want.” What will Solomon choose?
Today's Story
Solomon was the new king of God's people. He gathered everyone together to worship God, and he gave God a great big gift — a thousand offerings on the altar! Solomon wanted God to be first in the whole land.
That night, God came to Solomon. “Ask for whatever you want,” God said, “and I will give it to you.”
Anything! Solomon could have asked for piles of gold, or to live a very long time, or to win against all his enemies. But Solomon knew he had a huge job. He had to lead a whole nation of people. So he asked for something better.
“Please give me wisdom,” Solomon said. “Give me a heart that understands, so I can lead Your people the right way. There are so many of them — who could ever lead them on his own?”
God was so pleased! “Because you asked for wisdom to help My people, instead of riches or a long life for yourself,” God said, “I will give you wisdom. And I will also give you riches and honor like no king before you.”
Solomon asked for the best thing — and God gave him even more than he asked.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- If God said to you, “Ask for anything,” what would you be tempted to ask for? What do you think would be the best thing to ask for?
- Solomon wanted wisdom so he could help other people, not just himself. How could being wise help the people in your family?
- When is a time you really needed to know the right thing to do? You can ask God for wisdom anytime, just like Solomon did.
