This is the last chapter of 2 Chronicles. A sad time comes — but it ends with a wonderful promise: God's people get to go home!
Today's Story
After good King Josiah, the kings who came next kept turning away from God. God loved His people so much that He sent messengers again and again to call them back. “Come home to Me,” He said. But they would not listen.
So a sad thing finally happened. A faraway king came, and God's people had to leave their land. They were carried off to a place called Babylon, far from home. God's beautiful house in Jerusalem was left empty. It was a hard, sad time.
But God had not forgotten His people. He never does. He had made a promise long ago that one day they would come home again — and God always keeps His promises.
Years went by. Then God stirred up the heart of a new king named Cyrus. Cyrus made a big announcement to everyone: “The people of God may go back home! Go and build God's house in Jerusalem again. May the Lord be with you!”
What wonderful news! The long, sad time was over. God's people could pack their bags and go home. The book ends not with sadness, but with hope — because God kept His promise, just like He always does.
