2 Corinthians is a letter Paul wrote to help God's family love God and love each other. In this part, Paul talks about feeling sad — and what God does when we are.
Today's Story
Paul loved the people in a city called Corinth like they were his own family. So he wrote them a letter, the way you might write to someone you miss.
Paul wanted them to know something true. Life is not always easy. Even Paul had hard days — days when he was tired, days when he was scared, days when he was so sad he did not know what to do.
But Paul had found out a wonderful secret. When he felt sad, God came close and made his heart feel better. Paul said God is “the God who comforts us.” Comfort is the warm, safe feeling you get when someone holds you and says, “It's okay. I'm here.”
And here is the best part. God does not comfort us just so we feel better and stop. God comforts us so that we can go and comfort someone else. When a friend is crying, you can sit close and say the kind words God said to you.
So God's warm hug keeps getting passed along, from one person to the next.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When was the last time you felt sad? Who helped you feel better?
- What kind words make you feel safe when you are crying?
- Who do you know that is sad right now? How could you comfort them this week?
