2 Peter 3 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

2 Peter is a letter Peter wrote to help God's family love God and love each other.

In this last part, Peter explains why Jesus has not come back yet — and the answer is full of love.

Today's Story

Peter is writing the very end of his letter now. His friends have a question on their hearts: Jesus promised He would come back someday. So why is it taking so long?

Some people were even laughing. “Where is Jesus?” they teased. “He said He would come, but nothing has happened!”

Peter wants his family to understand something beautiful. “God is not slow,” he says. “To God, a thousand years feels like one day. He is not late. He is being patient.”

And here is why He waits: “God does not want anyone to be lost. He wants everyone to come to Him.” Every extra day is one more chance for one more person to turn to God and be part of His family.

It is like a daddy holding the door open a little longer, watching the road, hoping every last child makes it home for dinner. He waits because he loves them.

So while we wait, Peter says, we keep growing. We keep being kind. And we remember — one day Jesus will make everything new and good and right forever.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. What is something you have to wait for? How do you feel while you wait?
  2. Peter says God waits because He wants everyone to come to Him. Who is someone you can pray for, that they would come to know how much God loves them?
  3. How does it feel to know God is patient with you, and that He always leaves the door open?
