2 Timothy 1 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

2 Timothy is the last letter Paul ever wrote. He wrote it to help God's family love God and love each other — even when things are hard.

Paul was in prison when he wrote it. But his words are full of courage, like a warm hug for his friend Timothy.

Today's Story

Paul loved his young friend Timothy like a son. Now Paul was far away in a cold prison, and he wanted to write Timothy one more letter.

“I thank God for you every time I pray,” Paul wrote. “Day and night, I remember you. I remember your tears, and I really want to see you again.”

Paul remembered something special. Timothy's grandma Lois and his mom Eunice had loved God with all their hearts. They taught Timothy to love God too. That same faith was now growing big and strong inside Timothy.

Maybe Timothy was feeling scared. So Paul wrote some of the bravest words in the whole Bible: “God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid. He gave us a spirit of power, of love, and of a calm, clear mind.”

Paul was saying: you don't have to be afraid, Timothy. God is with you. He is strong. He loves you. And He will help you think clearly and do the right thing.

“Hold on tight to the good things you have learned,” Paul said. “God's Holy Spirit lives in you, and He will help you.”
