Paul kept writing his last letter to his friend Timothy, to help God's family stay strong and keep loving God.
In this part, Paul paints fun word-pictures to show Timothy how to follow Jesus well.
Today's Story
“Be strong, Timothy,” Paul wrote. “Be strong because God is so kind and good to you.”
Then Paul told Timothy to think about three people, to learn how to follow Jesus.
“Think of a soldier,” Paul said. A good soldier works hard and listens to his leader. He doesn't give up when things get tough.
“Think of a runner in a race,” Paul said. A runner who wants to win has to follow the rules and try her very best, all the way to the finish line.
“Think of a farmer,” Paul said. A farmer works in the hot sun, day after day. And when the food grows, he gets to enjoy it!
Paul wanted Timothy to keep going and not give up, just like them. Then Paul said something wonderful: “Even when we are not strong, Jesus stays faithful. He never stops loving us.”
Paul also said to be like a clean cup on the shelf — ready and useful, so God can use you to do good things for Him.
