Acts 1 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Before Jesus goes back to heaven, He gives His friends an amazing promise and an exciting job.

Today's Story

After Jesus rose from the dead, He spent forty days with His friends, showing them He was truly alive. Then it was time for Him to go back to heaven.

Jesus gathered His friends and gave them a promise: “Wait in Jerusalem. Soon the Holy Spirit will come to you, and you'll be filled with power!” And He gave them a job: “You will be My witnesses — first here, then in the next towns, and all the way to the ends of the earth. Tell everyone about Me!”

Then, as they watched, Jesus was lifted up into the sky, and a cloud hid Him from their sight. He had gone back to heaven!

The friends stood staring up at the sky. Suddenly two angels appeared. “Why are you looking up?” they said. “This same Jesus who went to heaven will come back again someday, just as you saw Him go!”

So the friends went back to the city to wait and pray, full of hope, getting ready for the Holy Spirit and their big job of telling the world about Jesus.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Jesus gave His friends a job to tell the whole world about Him. How can we be Jesus' “witnesses” too?
  2. The angels promised Jesus will come back someday. How does that promise make you feel?
  3. The friends waited and prayed for the Holy Spirit. Why is it good to wait and pray for God's help before a big job?
