Amos 6 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Amos was a shepherd who took care of sheep. God gave him important things to say to people who had stopped caring about each other.

Today's Story

Amos looked around his country, and here is what he saw. The people who had the most were having the comfiest, coziest time.

They stretched out on beds made of soft ivory. They ate the very best lamb and the very best veal. They made up little songs and strummed their harps. They drank big bowls of wine and rubbed the finest oils on their skin. Yum, yum. Lovely, lovely.

And that was all they thought about. All day long.

God sent Amos to say something they did not want to hear. “You feel so safe and so snug,” he told them. “But you are not even a little bit sad about the people around you who are hurting.”

Their neighbors were sad and in trouble. But these comfy people did not even notice. They were too busy enjoying their feast. They did not say, “Oh no, how can we help?” They just reached for one more snack.

God wanted them to know that He sees. He sees who we forget about when we get too cozy. And He cares about every single person, even the ones nobody else is looking after.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Think about your day. Did you see anyone who looked sad, lonely, or left out? What could you do to help them feel better?
  2. The people in the story only cared about their own snacks and comfy beds. Why is it easy to forget about other people when we are having a really good time?
  3. Who is someone you could share with or be kind to tomorrow?
