Colossians 1 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Colossians is a letter a man named Paul wrote to help God's family love God and love each other.

Paul could not visit his friends in a town called Colossae, so he sent them this letter instead.

Today's Story

Paul loved his friends who lived far away in a town called Colossae. He could not go see them, so he did the next best thing. He sent them a letter.

“I thank God for you every time I pray,” Paul wrote. He had heard how much they loved Jesus, and how much they loved each other, and it made his heart glad.

Then Paul wanted to tell them something big about Jesus. So he made a list, the way you might list your favorite things.

Jesus made everything, Paul said. The sky and the sea. The mountains and the trees. Every star you can see and every star too far to see. Big things and tiny things. Jesus made them all.

And here is the most amazing part. Paul wrote that Jesus is “over all things,” and that “in him all things hold together.” Think about that! The whole world does not fall apart, because Jesus is holding it. He keeps everything going, like strong, gentle hands wrapped all the way around the world.

Paul wanted his friends to know they did not have to be afraid of anything. Jesus is bigger than all of it, and He loves them.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. What is something you saw today that Jesus made? Why do you think He made it?
  2. Jesus holds the whole world together. When is a time you felt scared, and how does it help to know He is bigger than that?
  3. Paul thanked God for his friends. Who is someone you are thankful for, and could you tell them today?
