Colossians 2 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Paul keeps writing to his friends in Colossae to help God's family love God and love each other.

In this part of the letter, Paul helps them know who to listen to.

Today's Story

Paul really wanted his friends to be strong on the inside. So he kept writing.

“I want your hearts to be filled up with courage,” Paul said. He knew that some people were trying to trick his friends. They used fancy words that sounded smart, but were not true.

Paul said, do not be fooled. He told them to picture a big tree. A tree stands strong in a storm because its roots go down deep into the ground.

“So let your roots grow down into Jesus,” Paul wrote. “Be built up in him. Hold on to him, and keep on being thankful.”

When we know Jesus and trust Him, we are like that deep-rooted tree. Tricky words and silly rules cannot blow us over, because everything we really need is found in Jesus. He is the most important One of all.

Paul wanted his friends to feel safe and sure. They already had Jesus. And when you have Jesus, you have enough.

Talk About It

  1. Have you ever seen a big tree in the wind? How does it stay standing instead of falling over?
  2. Paul said some people use tricky words that are not true. What can you do when you are not sure if something is true?
  3. What is one way you can grow closer to Jesus this week, like a tree growing deeper roots?
