Ecclesiastes 1 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Ecclesiastes is a book of big, thoughtful questions. A wise man called the Teacher wrote it. He really wanted to know what makes life matter.

Today's Story

The Teacher was one of the wisest people who ever lived. And one day he started to wonder something big.

“What is life really for?” he asked. “We work hard all day. Then we go to sleep. Then we wake up and do it all over again. The sun comes up, and the sun goes down. The rivers run to the sea, and they never stop running. Round and round it goes.”

He looked and looked for the answer. He learned everything he could learn. But the more he looked on his own, the emptier he felt — like trying to catch the wind in his hands. You can chase it all day, but your hands stay empty.

The Teacher had not found his answer yet. But he kept searching. And that was a good thing to do — because the answer he was looking for was waiting to be found, and it had to do with God.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. The Teacher tried to catch the wind in his hands. Have you ever wanted something really badly, but when you got it, you still wanted more?
  2. What do you think makes a day feel happy and full instead of empty?
  3. The Teacher kept searching even when he had not found his answer yet. Why is it good to keep looking for what is true?
