Ecclesiastes 2 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

In Ecclesiastes 2, the Teacher tries to buy happiness. He has more money than almost anyone — so he tries everything!

Today's Story

The Teacher decided to try every fun thing he could think of.

He had big parties. He built beautiful houses and planted gardens full of every kind of tree. He dug ponds full of water. He bought gold and treasure and anything his eyes wanted. If it could be bought, he bought it!

For a little while, it felt exciting. But when the parties ended and the gardens grew quiet, the Teacher still felt that empty feeling inside. None of it had filled him up. It was like chasing the wind all over again.

Then he noticed something simple and beautiful. A good meal. Honest work. A good night's sleep. A laugh with friends. These small, everyday things were quietly wonderful — and they were gifts from God's own hand. The Teacher began to see that joy is not something we buy. It is something God gives.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. The Teacher bought everything he wanted and still felt empty. What is something money cannot buy?
  2. What is one simple, everyday gift from God that makes you happy — like a meal, a hug, or a sunny morning?
  3. How could we say thank You to God for the small good things today?
