God's family had grown HUGE in Egypt. But a new king was afraid of them — and two brave women had to decide who they would obey.
Today's Story
Long ago, a man named Jacob and his family came to live in Egypt. They were just a small family. But God blessed them, and they grew and grew — until there were so many of them they were a whole nation.
Then a new king came to power in Egypt. People called him Pharaoh. He looked at all of God's people and got scared. “There are too many of them!” he said.
So Pharaoh made them slaves. He put cruel bosses over them and made them work in the hot sun, making bricks all day long. But here's the surprising part: the harder Pharaoh pushed, the more God's people grew.
That made Pharaoh even more afraid. So he called for two women named Shiphrah and Puah. Their job was to help when babies were born. And Pharaoh gave them a terrible order — to harm the baby boys.
But Shiphrah and Puah loved God more than they were afraid of the king. They would not do it. They kept the babies safe.
And God saw what they did. God was kind to Shiphrah and Puah, and He gave them families of their very own. God had not forgotten His people. Not for one single minute.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Shiphrah and Puah were told to do something wrong by a powerful king — and they said no, because they loved God. When is it hard to do the right thing because someone wants you to do the wrong thing?
- Pharaoh tried to make God's people smaller, but they kept growing. Have you ever seen something good keep going even when someone tried to stop it?
- God saw the brave choice the two women made, even though it was a secret. How does it feel to know God sees the good things you do when no one else is watching?
