After the Ten Commandments, God gives His people more good rules — all about treating each other fairly and kindly.
Today's Story
God had given His people the Ten Commandments. Now He gave them many more rules to help them live together well — like a guidebook for being a good, fair, kind community.
Many of the rules were about being fair when something goes wrong. If you accidentally hurt someone, or damage their things, you make it right. If you break something, you fix it or replace it.
God especially cared about protecting people who couldn't protect themselves — servants, the weak, anyone who could be taken advantage of. His rules said: treat everyone with fairness, even the people who work for you.
These rules might sound old-fashioned now, but underneath them all is something that never changes: God cares about fairness, and He wants His people to treat each other right.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- God's rules were about being fair. What does “being fair” look like with your brothers, sisters, or friends?
- If you accidentally broke or lost something that belonged to someone else, what's the fair thing to do?
- God especially wanted the weak and helpless protected. Who is someone you could stand up for, or be kind to?
